The well-known Hindu religious site located in Bodegaun, Lalitpur is Santaneshwor Mahadev Temple. The Santaneshwor Mahadev temple is considered to have been built on one of the locations where Satidevi’s breast had fallen. According to the Hindu holy book Shree Swasthani Batra Katha a very popular ceremony was conducted in Nepal during the winter months of Poush (January – February), when Lord Shiva was insulted in front of other gods, Sati Devi, Lord Shiva’s first consort, gave up her life.
Shiva, infuriated by Satidevis’s death, traveled around the world with her body on his back. Shiva was so enraged that he didn’t notice Satidevi’s withering body was coming apart. Sridevi’s body pieces were scattered over the world and it is said her breast fell into this temple’s location. As a result, the temple’s name was changed to Santaneshwor, which means “a boon for having a kid”. Shiva linga, Shiva and Hanumans idols, and Nandi can be found all around the temple, as well as in front of it due to this reason. Santaneshwor Mahadev is visited by Hindu devotees hoping to be blessed with children. According to legend, individuals who are unable to bear children can appease Lord Shiva at the Santaneshwor Mahadev Temple and their laps will not become barren.
With dense forests, we can view a clean and green atmosphere. On major occasions such as Maha Shivaratri, Teej, Bada Dashain, and other Hindu festivals, large crowds of Hindu devotees can be seen. You can take the bus to this location, to experience the beauty and culture of Newars, you should walk from Chapagaon or Thecho. Santaneshwor Mahadev Temple is also a well-known location for getting away from the city’s hustle and bustle.
